According to Brandon Hall Group’s research summary, How, Where and Why is HR Service Best Delivered, many HR teams said the biggest challenges were a lack of organizational preparation (42%) outside of budget and time constraints.
Without the right organizational mindset and support, even the best-designed policies will fail. One way to tackle this challenge is through a more robust human resource administration policy. But only one in five organizations said they have a council or group that regularly reviews and adjusts human resources policies – but it is the type of organizational support that creates readiness for change.
The massive shift in a remote workforce brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic has prompted HR services to ensure that the workforce moves towards complete digitisation. This is no easy task, said the Brandon Hall Group, because for new work-from-home groups, the technology may be new.
“Focus on the future – not with prediction, but with agility,” said Cliff Stevenson, principal analyst for workforce management practice and talent acquisition at Brandon Hall Group. “Only 14% of organizations see themselves at the top of the maturity curve and this concern holds many organizations behind: prioritizing employee experience for the present and foreseeable future.
“It’s not meant to be one plan for the present and another for what may come later, but rather a structure and model that allows for rapid changes in the human resource service model,” Stevenson said. “It’s more important to be agile than to be strong.”
There is no one perfect HR service delivery model, just one that is right for your organization. But Brandon Hall Group said:
Get creative with technology, but first make sure it can handle the basics.
Create a proper HR service delivery governance structure.
Train your HR team in Design Thinking.
More organizations are moving to a centralized model – decentralized or hybrid – which still only represents over half of organizations,” said Brandon Hall Group CEO Mike Cook. “What works for you in a company is what works for you.” can’t work, it has more to do with your business and the distribution of your workforce.”
HR services are prioritizing performance management, compensation and benefits, and diversity and inclusion. It is clear why they should take on more strategic and influential roles in their organizations – but without proper governance and readiness, they will be unable to fulfill these priorities at the top of their abilities, research from the Brandon Hall Group shows.
